You know you're exhausted and spiralling when...
You completely forget to organise his nightly meds.
[Was sure I had done it, must have been the previous night.]
You offer him a cup of tea but get so distracted with other chores, you only remember he said 'yes' an hour later.
[A year ago, he would have blasted me for not bringing his tea immediately. This morning he just muttered a timid 'thank you'.]
You find the dirty washing from your weekend away two weeks ago in a bag in the conservatory.
[Don't ask. I would have put a bet on it that I had done it when we got home.]
You find a delivery box with a few mouldy vegetables that arrived mid-December in the conservatory.
You find loads of mould on the conservatory wall.
[You just want to crumple into a heap and weep.]
But you don't, you persevere. You find the strength and oomph to keep going. You still have washing and cleaning to do.
But all this is sapping your energy. All this is too much.
A little voice in your head says 'You've got this. You are stronger than you think.'
Hmm, sometimes I am not so sure.
PS An addition to 'you know you're exhausted when....
Late that night, I started up the stairs but lost my balance and fell backwards off the second step from the bottom. Fortunately we had a load of empty cardboard boxes at the bottom of the stairs and I landed in them. Great! A soft landing and I managed to squash the boxes flat ready for recycling at the same time. #funnynotfunny
Note to self: I really need to strengthen my core muscles and definitely need more sleep!
